The Lips

YOU MIGHT SAY that lips form the uppermost end of the aerodigestive tract, and you’d be right, but poetry has been written about the way these parts of the tract affect our lives, and loves. Lips are the visual expression of our emotions. You know when someone is angry by the way their lips are drawn into a thin line; you know when someone is amorous by the way they plump and pucker. Lips are important to speech, especially pronunciation. And they are sensitive erogenous zones, which is why kissing is so popular.

There are several reasons why people seek out the services of a cosmetic facial surgeon when it comes to their lips. Some have suffered an injury and ended up with scarring on the lips - like the arrow through Cupid’s heart. Others have developed paralysis, and with it, a shyness, because their lips pull into alarming contortions when they smile. Some want the cosmetic boost of a collagen injection for lips like Barbara Hershey’s in the movie “Beaches”. Hershey lips; Heresy kisses. Before I explain how a cosmetic surgeon can help, it might be a good idea to describe exactly what lips are.
