Chemical Facial Peel

Medium peels can be used in the neck to help
improve the neck skin texture. They can be used
on the cheeks in those patients who do not want
the down time of the laser skin resurfacing.

The best candidate for a chemical peel is a man or woman who is physically healthy, realistic in their expectations, and looking to restore wrinkled, blemished, unevenly pigmented or sun-damaged facial skin. Chemical peels tend to be most effective on individuals with fair, thin skin with superficial wrinkles.

Chemical peels are most often performed in a surgeon's office or outpatient surgical center. No anesthesia is required, though sedation may be used. A TCA chemical peel tends to take between ten and fifteen minutes to complete, though repeat treatments may be necessary to maintain the results.

After the procedure, patients are likely to experience some throbbing, tingling, swelling and redness. Any moderate discomfort and swelling that patients experience usually fades within the first week. Tape may be used to cover the face immediately after the procedure, and it is usually removed within a day or two. Most patients find that they can return to work and other normal activities with a week to ten days, though sun exposure should be avoided for some time.

The potential complications that can occur with a chemical peel include cold sores, infection, fever blisters, scarring, skin allergies, and whiteheads.
