Facial Plastic Surgery Consultation

During your consultation at The Art of Facial Surgery, you will be introduced to Dr. Ellis and his staff. The most important question is the first you will be asked: What do you wish to change about your appearance? It may seem like a loaded question to some, but very soon we will understand your objectives, and you will learn ours. You are encouraged to put together a list of features or specific aspects of your face/neck you wish to be altered beforehand.

At this point in the meeting, your face will be analyzed in its entirety. This includes bone structure, the type of skin you have, and your overall look. Your current and history of health are also taken into account to ensure your safety throughout the cosmetic procedure process. After all possible cosmetic facial enhancements are explained to you, it may be decided which procedure(s) you will receive. Whether you opt to have injectable fillers and skin treatments or a more extensive cosmetic surgery, Dr. Ellis and his staff will provide information about your probable results, the road to recovery, and complications that may arise from the facial cosmetic procedure. Dr. Ellis will also provide you with detailed information regarding the consultation and procedure(s), as well as the opportunity to schedule a date and time for the cosmetic course of action you wish to undergo. The cost of the consultation at The Art of Facial Surgery is $150.00.

Prior to the Surgery

The results of your cosmetic enhancement will be discussed during the consultation, but in order to paint a clearer picture, many patients opt to view a digital image of their expected outcome. This can be a helpful tool for rhinoplasty patients, but may serve a lesser function to those scheduled to undergo anti-aging treatments. Once you have decided on a specific treatment, a form of consent must be signed to further your care. Your health will be assessed through paperwork as well as a blood test, urine test, and an ECG (this varies with age) prior to your procedure.

Another aspect of your care is the anesthesiology if you opt to undergo a cosmetic surgery. There are two types of anesthesia offered at the office: conscious sedation or total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA). Conscious sedation is just that, and coerces the body into a temporary period of amnesia. TIVA is similar to general anesthesia, with lesser side effects. This type of sedation is administered by an anesthesiologist. You have a choice between the two methods and must make a decision before scheduling your surgery.

Our Surgical Facility

In our pursuit for excellence, Art of Facial Surgery has taken the necessary steps to acquire accreditation with the Canadian Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (CAAASF). CAAASF is a voluntary organization of doctors to provide a safe environment for surgical procedures. We have chosen to be inspected by our colleagues because we want our patients to have the assurance of a safe alternative to in-hospital surgery.

After the Surgery

Upon leaving the operating room, you will enter the recovery room until you are physically and mentally prepared to return home. It is up to you to have previously appointed someone you trust to care for you during the first 24 hours following your surgery, preferably an adult.

Post-operative care will differ from patient to patient, so Dr. Ellis and his staff will give you specific written instructions for you and your caretaker to follow. Because of the cosmetic nature of your surgery, you must be careful not to risk the results of your surgery as well as the healing process. A doctor will see you before you go home, and someone from the office will call you the same night. One to three days after your surgery, you will be scheduled to return to the office so Dr. Ellis can ensure that you are healing properly. He will also see you regularly in the months that follow until you are fully healed.
