Lip Enhancement in Toronto
As we age, the intensity of our lips diminish. Issues associated with a mature set of lips are the wrinkling and thinning of the area as well as the lengthening of the upper lip, as it seems to deflate and spread horizontally. Aging lessens the height of the upper lip, giving it a softer and undefined shape. If age does not play a factor in the shape of one's lips, genetics do. Some people have always had a small or thin set of lips. A lip enhancement, often called a lip augmentation, can correct the characteristics of a pout that lacks. The enlargement of the lips can be as temporary as a few months or as permanent as forever.
A cosmetic surgeon can perform a lip augmentation test on a patient wishing to undergo the surgery so a desired fullness can be created. For a temporary fullness of the lips, a hyaluronic acid filler is injected into the lips. If a patient wishes for permanence, indefinitely lasting injectable fillers are administered through a syringe, or a Gore-Tex implant is inserted into the lips. Lips with creases and lines can be improved by the use of a laser. If the patient has an issue with a pale colored, thin upper lip, a subnasal lip lift can be performed with a discreet incision hidden beneath the nose.
Understanding Lip Enhancement Procedures
If you are a healthy adult wishing to add fullness and shape to your lips, a lip augmentation is the right procedure for you. There are multiple techniques used to enhance the lips, and all available options will be discussed during your consultation. You will either be visiting a plastic surgeons facility, a surgical center, or a hospital for your desired course of treatment. A lip augmentation can take a half hour to two hours until completed. A topical anesthesia is most often used for lip injections, but a local anesthesia may be necessary when a Gore-Tex implant is inserted into the lips.
After the lip enhancement procedure, the lips tend to swell which make speaking and chewing arduous. This should only last for two days following the date of the cosmetic procedure. Pain medicine can keep the discomfort to a minimum. Lip injections heal in a short amount of time, as most discoloration and excessive fullness of the area disappear within a week. A lip augmentation involving a Gore-Tex implant can take longer to heal. Surgical sutures are removed in one week to ten days, unless they are designed to dissolved into the body in about the same amount of time. Following lip injections, patients can usually resume work and activities in a couple of days, while implant patients may cvcrequire one to two weeks off.
Possible issues may arise after a lip enhancement including swelling, infection, scarring, a loss of sensation, rigid lips, and a reaction to the anesthesia.
