Toronto Lip Enhancement

There are 3 problems that occur with the aging lip:

  1. Lips become thin.
  2. Upper and lower lips become wrinkled.
  3. The upper lip elongates or lengthens.
As we age the vertical height of the red lip thins
and the arch of the lip line flattens. Some people
are born with thin lips. Augmentation or enlarging
lips can be permanent or temporary.

A lip augmentation test allows the cosmetic surgeon to create the desired enhancing size of the lips the patient wishes. Permanent augmentation is performed with the insertion of Gore-TexT or the use of a permanent injectable filler. For temporary
augmentation, hyaluronic acid fillers are used. Wrinkled lips are treated with the
laser. (See laser resurfacing) A long white upper lip is treated with a subnasal lip
lift where the scar is hidden under the nose.

Understanding Lip Enhancement Procedures

The best candidate for lip enhancement is a man or woman who is physically healthy, realistic in their expectations, and interested in adding fullness or restoring shape and fullness to the lips. There are several different techniques for lip enhancement, but the procedure typically takes anywhere from a half hour to two hours to complete and may be performed in a doctor's office-based facility, an outpatient surgical center or a hospital. Lip injection procedures are typically performed with a topical anesthesia, while a local anesthesia may be used for procedures using Gore-Tex.

After lip enhancements, the lips will likely be swollen, and talking and chewing may be difficult during the first forty-eight hours. Pain medication may be prescribed to help control any discomfort. Bruising and swelling may last as long as a week after lip injections, and typically longer after procedures involving Gore-Tex. Stitches are usually removed or dissolve on their own within seven to ten days. Patients are typically able to return to work and normal activities within a couple of days after lip injections, or one to two weeks after procedures involving Gore-Text. The potential complications that can occur with lip enhancement may include the following: adverse anesthesia reactions, infection, numbness, scarring, stiffness of the lips, and swelling.
