Toronto Neck Fat Removal

For the younger patients who have localized areas of fat in the front of their necks or under the jaw line, liposhaving is an excellent technique where the fat is permanently removed. Depending on the volume of fat, no skin tightening procedure is required as the skin is young enough to shrink by itself. The resulting contour becomes more natural.

More about Toronto Liposuction

The best candidate for liposuction is a man or woman who is physically healthy and realistic in their expectations. Because liposuction is not a substitute for diet and exercise, the procedure is best performed on individuals who are of normal weight with firm, elastic skin but have areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.

Liposuction is most often performed as an outpatient procedure though more extensive procedures may be performed on an inpatient basis. The procedure can take place in a surgeon's office-based facility, an outpatient surgical center, or a hospital. Various types of anesthesia can be used, including local with sedation, general, or an epidural. It typically takes between one and two or more hours to complete liposuction, though procedures confined to the face may take less time.

After surgery, it's common to experience some bruising, swelling, numbness, and soreness. Pain medication can be prescribed to help control any pain or discomfort. Bleeding may also occur, along with some fluid drainage at the incision sites. A small drainage tube may be inserted beneath the skin for the first few days. The stitches are usually removed or dissolve on their own within seven to tend. Patients are typically required to wear a compression bandage or garment similar to a girdle for the first few weeks to help control swelling and help the skin to adjust to its new contours. Most bruising and swelling fade within three weeks, though some minor swelling can remain for six months or more. Patients typically find that they can return to work within one to two weeks after surgery, though more strenuous activities will need to be avoided for two to four weeks.

All surgery carries some degree of risk. The potential complications that can occur with liposuction include adverse anesthesia reactions, a symmetry, bagginess or rippling of skin, blood clots, delays in healing, excessive fluid loss resulting in shock, fluid retention, friction burns, infection, perforation of vital organs, pigmentation changes, and skin injury.
