Down Turmed Mouth - DTM - Toronto

Marionette grooves are depressions which start
the corners of the mouth and make the mouth
appear to turn down. There are several solutions for down-turned mouth (DTM). Temporary and permanent injectable fillers and Botox are used with great success. The insertion of a permanent 3 Dimension volume filler such as Gore-Tex is successful in decreasing the depth of the groove. Following surgery there is some swelling that settles quickly, but by 1 week patients look presentable.

Marionette Line Correction Procedure

The best candidate for marionette line correction is a physically healthy man or woman who has realistic expectations and is interested in improving the deep grooves at the corners of the mouth. There are several different techniques and procedures that can be used for marionette line correction. Some procedures, such as those involving injectable fillers and Gore-Tex, are typically performed with either a topical anesthetic or a combination of local anesthesia and sedation. Other procedures, Botox injections for instance, usually require no anesthesia.

Recovery after marionette line correction will depend upon the particular procedure. Botox injections involve minimal downtime and most patients are able to return to work and normal activities immediately. Other procedures have a more involved recovery. Botox injections are associated with very few risks, while other techniques may involve the risks of scarring, infection, and other complications.
