Additional Mid Cheek Implant Information
The best candidate for mid cheek implants is a man or woman who is physically healthy, realistic in their expectations, and interested in adding fullness to the mid face. Cheek augmentation surgery is typically performed in a surgeon's office-based facility or an outpatient surgical center. General anesthesia or a combination of local anesthesia and sedation is commonly used, and the procedure usually takes between one and two hours to perform.
After surgery, it's normal to experience mild to moderate discomfort during the first day or two, and this can be controlled with pain medication. Bruising and swelling is common and the majority of it tends to fade within two weeks though some swelling can persist for a month or longer. Numbness can also occur. The stitches are typically removed within five to ten days or dissolvable sutures will dissolve on their own in about the same time. Most patients find that they can return to work within a week after the procedure, though patients may choose to wear camouflage cosmetics to help disguise bruising. More strenuous activities should be avoided for four to six weeks. The potential complications associated with cheek augmentation include asymmetry, hematoma, hyperpigmentation, implant shifting, infection, numbness, and the need for additional surgery to remove and/or replace the implant.
